Matariki is a name maori for the cluster of stars also known as the pleiades. It rises in mid-winter late may or early june. For the maori it heralds the stars of a new year matariki literally means the eye of god or little eye. Matariki has two meanings both of which refer to the cluster of stars. important time to celebrate the earth and show respect for the land on which we live. It could become a family tradition to do the gardening altogether. 
And the mother is also surrounded by her son daughter and there are not just seven stars there are 200 hundred stars. I feel quite sad for does who had pass away and it is gonna be maori new year.
