Maths Division

Week 4 independent activities For all groups
Cameron and Shane collected stickers from a young age.
When they were 15 they had both collected 588.
They thought a good way to share their hobby
was to share their stickers between themselves and two other friends.
How many stickers did each of them receive?
588 + 588 = 1176
1176 ÷ 4 = 294
So all four of them get 294 sticks each.

Sam’s church were fundraising for a trip to Tonga.
They held a Fiafia nite raising $75,000.
The money was then split between five of the congregation groups.
How much money did each group receive?
If 75 ÷ 5 = 15  then 75,000 ÷ 5 = 15,000

At a basketball game each Lakers fan were given a gift bag of Lakers gear worth $170.
If there were 340 fans, how much money did the gift bags cost for the organisers?
170 ÷ 340=?
170 x 2 = 340
My Answer = 2

At Matheson Bay each person is a allowed a quota of 50 kina a day.
During the summer 500 people visited the popular beach to collect kina.
How many kina were taken from the sea in the summer?
50 ÷ 500=?
I know that 10 x 50= 500 so I did 500 ÷ 50 and I got my answer 10.
939 ÷ 3 = 313
450÷4 = 112.5
939÷3 = 313
628÷9 = 697 R8
274÷7 = 39.1
1283÷10 = 128.3
512÷4 = 128

Place Value Division

Place Value Division
We are learning to solve division equations using our knowledge of place value

Multiplication practice:

56 ➗ 8 =   7          72 ➗ 9 =    8            44 ➗ 11 = 4
45 ➗ 9 =   5           64 ➗ 8 =     8           56 ➗ 7 = 8
35 ➗ 5 =    7         144 ➗ 12 =   12          27 ➗ 3 = 9

Albert earns $6 for each dog he walks. He walks 5 dogs an hour. After walking dogs for 2 hours, how much money will Albert have earned?

6 x 5 =30
2 x 30 = 60
He earned $60.00 for 2 hours.

Farah works as a librarian. If Farah worked for 10 days and earned $1,500, how much did she earn per day?

1500 / 10 = 150

The swimming club went to a swim meet in another town. They took 12 cars and 14 vans. There were 5 people in each car and 5 people in each van. How many people went on the trip?

12              14
X5               x5
60               70
60 + 70 130 people

We are learning to solve division problems using place value.

Times table practice:
12 × 12 =144
12 × 2 =24
7 × 2 =14
3 × 1 =3
3 × 2 =6
4      ×      1     =411 × 12 =132
3 × 12 =36
2 × 2 =4
5 × 12 =60
6 × 1 =6
7 × 12 =84
8 × 2 =16
4 × 12 =48
